Derbyshire Skip Hire - Usage Guide

Skip hire guide for skip hire in Derbyshire

This Derbyshire skip hire guide will help you to make your skip hire experience with Just Skips a pleasant one, by informing you of standard skip hire tips and tricks to maximise value for money from skip hire in Derbyshire.

The third step, skip hire usage, will help you correctly and legally fill your skip with waste. This page follows the previous guides, DerbyshireSkip Hire Waste Preparation and Derbyshire Skip Hire Ordering Process

Who is responsible for the skip's waste?

You are legally responsible for the contents of the skip you hire. You need to ensure that the waste disposed in the hired skip is suitable for general disposal and that the skip is not overloaded. If you are sharing a skip with a neighbour, you will also need to ensure that their waste is suitable.

What if I put hazardous waste in the skip?

An extra disposal fee may be charged if unsuitable waste is found in a skip, unless you have notified us prior to ordering. This is because our skips are normally hired for general waste, and hazardous wastes requires alternative disposal methods. Waste not suitable for general waste skip hire includes: -

  • Plasterboard
  • Asbestos,
  • Fridges, Freezers and Air-conditioning units,
  • Tyres,
  • Electrical appliances,
  • Batteries,
  • Fluorescent light tubes,
  • Paints (including residues inside paint cans)
  • Solvents,
  • Aerosols and gas cannisters,
  • Liquids,
  • Oil, fuel and other automotive fluids.

What happens if I overload the skip?

An overfilled skip is a hazard. The skip hire lorry may struggle to lift the skip, and your overfilled waste can be dangerous to other people as the skip is being transported. The contents of a skip should not exceed the height of the skip's walls.

If your skip is overloaded, the skip lorry driver reserves the right to either remove the excess waste from the skip, or refuse to remove the skip altogether. The latter will incur a wasted journey charge.

Any other skip hire rules?

  • Never set fire to the waste in your skip. This may sound like common-sense, but it does happen occasionally!
  • Skip hire collection services may be limited during Sundays and Bank Holidays. Please call our skip hire team on 0800 804 8410 beforehand if this will be an issue.
  • If you have any queries while hiring a skip through Just Skips, then don't hesitate to get in touch. Call the skip hire team on 0800 804 8410 or e-mail us and we will try and resolve any skip hire issues.

How do I get the skip collected?

Simply call us on 0800 804 8410 or e-mail us, and we'll arrange the skip hire collection from there. When booking a skip hire collection, please mention the address of the skip's location. On the day of the skip collection, please ensure that adequate access to the skip is available for the skip lorry to load the skip.
